Mighty Oaks Baseball Roll Past Northampton, 12-2
Carneys Point, NJ. - The Salem Community College baseball team put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Wednesday, cruising to a 12-2 victory over Northampton Community College. With the win, the Mighty Oaks improve to 6-11 overall as they continue to build momentum heading into the remainder of the series.
Salem's offense came alive early and never let up, tallying 14 hits and 12 runs in a balanced attack up and down the lineup. The Mighty Oaks showed patience at the plate as well, drawing five walks while striking out just six times.
Leading the offensive surge was Trevor Hernandez, who delivered a standout performance with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Cliff Wysinger provided a major spark in the, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs to pace the team. Tyler Hacker also turned in a strong outing, collecting two hits, scoring twice, and driving in a run.
Aidan Nestor added two hits and two RBIs, while Roman Hernandez chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Colin McLaughlin made the most of his opportunities, reaching base twice and driving in a run. Contributions continued throughout the lineup, as Chase Hortiz and Rocco String each added hits, and JJ Pankowski showcased discipline with three walks and a run scored.
On the mound, Seth McCormick delivered a dominant performance to earn the win and even his record at 2-2 on the season. The right-hander tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out 10 batters. He worked around five walks but consistently shut down Northampton's offense when it mattered most.
Louie Rivera came on in relief to close out the game, allowing one run over the final inning while striking out one.
Salem's ability to combine timely hitting with strong pitching proved to be the difference, as the Mighty Oaks controlled the game from start to finish.
The two teams will meet again to conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader at Northampton Community College on Thursday, March 19. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. as Salem looks to carry its momentum into the road matchup.
