Newark, NJ. - The Salem Community College women's basketball team dropped a Region 19 road matchup on Wednesday night, falling 64–35 to Essex County College. With the loss, Salem moves to 0–4 on the season.
Essex controlled the game defensively, limiting Salem's second-chance opportunities and converting key runs to create separation throughout the contest.
Tanijya Shaw led Salem with 12 points, adding 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Ray'Nescia King finished with 7 points and 4 rebounds, while Kasey Oliver added 4 points and 4 rebounds in the paint. Jayda Hunter continued her strong rebounding efforts, grabbing a team-high 10 boards to go with 8 points. Daniella Gustin pulled down 6 rebounds, contributing on the defensive glass.
Salem will look to bounce back next week as the Mighty Oaks travel to Delaware Technical Community College on Tuesday, November 25. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
