Mighty Oaks Battle but Fall to Delaware Tech, 64–53, in Region 19 Matchup
Dover, DE. - The Salem Community College Mighty Oaks women's basketball team continued to show grit and improvement, but ultimately came up short in a 64–53 Region 19 loss to Delaware Tech Community College on Tuesday night. With the defeat, Salem drops to 0–5 on the season.
Despite the setback, the Mighty Oaks saw several strong individual performances that kept the contest competitive deep into the second half.
Tanijya Shaw led Salem with an impressive 16 points, attacking the basket relentlessly while adding 2 assists and 4 steals.
Justine Cardona delivered another solid outing, scoring 11 points and pulling down 5 rebounds, while Ray'Nescia King contributed 9 points, 4 steals, and 2 rebounds.
In the paint, Kasey Oliver dominated the glass, posting a double-digit rebounding effort with 12 boards (7 offensive), 10 points, and a steady defensive presence. Daniella Gustin added toughness inside with 7 rebounds, while Paula Wilson chipped in 5 points and 3 rebounds off the bench.
Salem showed strong defensive stretches, forcing turnovers and creating fast-break opportunities, but struggled to convert consistently from the field. Delaware Tech capitalized on key runs late in each half to maintain control.
The Mighty Oaks will look to regroup and capture their first win of the season when they return home. Salem Community College hosts Union College of New Jersey on Tuesday, December 2, at 5:00 PM in the DuPont Fieldhouse.
