Women's Basketball Fall To Hagerstown
Hagerstown, MD. - The Salem Community College women's basketball team came up just short on Monday night, falling to Hagerstown Community College 56–54 in a tightly contested matchup.
The Mighty Oaks had an opportunity to tie the game in the closing seconds, but were unable to convert as time expired, sealing a heartbreaking two-point loss. With the defeat, Salem drops to 2–11 on the season.
Tanijya Shaw led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, shooting 9-of-24 from the field and knocking down 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Shaw also added three rebounds and four assists in a strong all-around performance.
Daniella Gustin provided an efficient scoring effort, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Kasey Oliver contributed eight points and seven rebounds, while Justine Cardona chipped in five points. Paula Wilson and Jayda Hunter each added three points, with Hunter also grabbing nine rebounds to help control the glass.
Despite strong defensive efforts and balanced rebounding, Salem was unable to overcome Hagerstown's late execution down the stretch.
The Mighty Oaks will look to bounce back in their next contest as they return home to host Harcum College at the DuPont Fieldhouse in Salem on Thursday, January 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
